Launch day! Idol Manager is finally out!
Launch day is finally here! You heard right: Idol Manager is finally out! Huzzah!
Getting your copy of the game
If you've already been playing the beta version, simply updating your install will give you the latest version of the game.
Additionally, those who purchased the game through itch.io can now claim a Steam key for the game. To claim a Steam key for your itch.io purchase, go to your personalized itch.io download page for Idol Manager and scroll down to the section of the page with the header "Claim your Steam key". More information can be found in this thread, please post there with any problems you encounter while trying to claim your Steam key.
Note that if you didn't purchase your game through itch.io, but instead received a itch.io game key by pledging through Kickstarter or Backerkit, your Steam key is instead being delivered to you directly by email (Kickstarter backers should check this page if encountering any problems trying to locate their digital rewards).
Info about save files
All versions of Idol Manager -- whether you're playing the itch.io version or the Steam version -- store save files in the same location. This also applies to previous beta versions of Idol Manager: if you played the beta, you can install the retail release version of the game and pick up right where you left off.
Other launch info
The following is mostly a recap of the information that we posted in our previous Kickstarter update earlier this month in anticipation of the game's launch, but to quickly re-iterate the important parts:
Idol Manager's French localization is delayed (but not canceled)
The game's French localization is not yet ready for launch, and as such, we've had to update the game's Steam page to remove mention of French support. We still have plans for French localization to arrive in a later patch -- we'll announce more about this as soon as we are able!
Nintendo Switch version
The Nintendo Switch version of the game is currently in pre-production, and active development will begin soon. Right now, we don't have more information -- our attention is focused on a number of issues that have cropped up around the PC release -- but in the future we'll be sharing more information about the Switch port (and when you can expect it).
Multiplayer
Multiplayer is still planned to be added in a post-launch patch. (This is still a feature that we're excited about, but because it's a stretch goal, we didn't want its inclusion to delay the release of the game.)
Mod support - editor update coming soon
We shipped an early version of the Idol Manager editor during the game's beta, and we've made several updates to it since then based on your suggestions and feedback. Within the next week, we intend to launch an updated version of the editor (and with that new version of the editor, we'll also be updating the accompanying documentation, which as some of you have noted has historically lagged behind the editor's current feature set).
Thank you!
We're incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped to make Idol Manager possible. The support that we received throughout the Kickstarter campaign and beta period surpassed our wildest expectations, and we feel so incredibly fortunate to have the support of backers who have been cheering us along every step of the way.
This is a huge day for us, and we're incredibly excited to now have the opportunity to share our creation with the world, but we wouldn't be where we are today without all of you. Thank you all for being a part of our success, and please enjoy Idol Manager!

A BLINK from myanmar.
It's a nice game but neither is there any mature content (second kickstarter goal) or a multiplayer (sixth kickstarter goal). How does this come?
Also why do you have a adult only rating on steam? This doesn't make sense. There is no graphic content in this game at all. Actually it's pretty child friendly.
And if I understood it correctly hardcore material wasn't planned anyway, just slighlty mature content? But even that is not included in the game. I'm confused.
Still a fun game, but some clarification is needed I think.
Hi LunaLunatic, you may want to read the latest Kickstarter post for more info, since it addresses several of your questions. Specifically, there's a bolded section marked "multiplayer," and I believe the rest of your questions are addressed in a much longer section titled "Clarifying the situation with the Steam release's age rating." We're absolutely in agreement with you regarding the Steam's age rating when you say that "this doesn't make sense," but unfortunately it wasn't our decision.
We don't have any new developments on the situation to report since that post; we're still waiting on Steam's decision regarding the game's age rating, and until that verdict comes down, our hands our tied. We can't really say anything further at the moment, due to the uncertain and tenuous nature of the situation which is still developing. Please rest assured that once we are able to say more about this situation, we will say more about this situation, and we'll have some announcements to make as well regarding our Kickstarter stretch goals and how we intend to go about fulfilling them.
Thanks for your help and information! I appreciate it.
oh. I bought a new one. :)
I saw that there's English voice acting in the trailer. Bought the game on steama nd its in Japanese Dub. Is there a way to change it into English or is it still in production?
Currently we have no plans to release an English dub for the game.
Apologies if you felt misled by the original trailer as to what content would actually appear in the game: we hope that the game's lack of English voice acting isn't a deal-breaker, but if it is, please feel free to request a refund from Steam. (Steam should be able to issue a refund for the game as long as you request it within 14 days of having purchased the game and have logged a playtime of less than 2 hours.)
Nah it isn't a deal breaker and its not a big deal, though it be good to add a little disclaimer about the English dub if you haven't.
In fact I am enjoying myself and will continue to play the game.
I appreciate the clarification.
We addressed this in a recent Kickstarter post here, if you want the long explanation (scroll down to the section labeled "Clarifying the situation with the Steam release's age rating").
The short explanation is that despite the fact that we did NOT intend for Idol Manager to be a "adults only" game, Steam decided last week to classify it as "adults only," which prevents it from appearing in certain territories, including Germany. Since then, we have been working with Steam to attempt to rectify the situation and submitted a new build of the game, but unfortunately because this came up so recently, we were not able to resolve it in time for release. We are still waiting for their verdict, and due to the current uncertain situation, we can't disclose any further details, but once Steam has passed judgment and re-evaluated our game, we'll have more announcements/updates to share.
Is there any actual difference between the Steam Version of the game and the one you can download here on itch.io? And if there is, can I safely transfer my save files to the other version?
Currently, there's no difference between the itch.io and Steam versions of the game, apart from Steam-native features like Steam workshop for mod support and Steam achievements. If we end up making any patches that would cause the two versions to be different from each other, we'll make an announcement about it.
You can switch between versions without losing your progress -- in fact, you don't even need to take any extra steps to "transfer your progress," as both versions of the game write data to (and read data from) the same folder (located in %appdata% if you're on Windows). If you install a different version of the game, when you launch the game it should locate your old save file and automatically pick up right where you left off.
I won't lie I tried waiting till the moment of release to be the first one. I fell asleep in my chair XD
Congrats on the launch!!
I understand the situation with the Steam release, but why is the itch.io version censored too? Kind of feels like a rip off to have a 3rd of the CGs removed.
My thoughts exactly, I don't see the point in censoring the content on itch.io as well.
If I wanted to start clean, where is the save data location to clear that?
Your data is here:
Does that clear the 'global' stats? I tried deleting everything there and it still seems to retain the global stuff like unlocked CGs and the like.
Did you delete the entire folder or just global_data.json? Because the game can pull data about CGs and other stuff from your save files too.
Also, if you're on steam - there might be cloud saves enabled
Ahh that was the problem! I deleted the folder initially but I had the Steam Cloud saves on, so it was pulling from that. Deleted that and the game is now reset! Thanks for the prompt response, now I can play! And btw, congrats on launching this! Been eager for the official release for quite awhile!
